Texoma Churches Getting Hit With Recession

While lawmakers can rely on tax payer money for state projects, churches can only rely on donations and in this down economy, some local churches say the recession is is having an impact on the amount of contribution they get in their collection plates.
It's happening at the First Church of the Nazarene in Wichita Falls. Church leaders there say donations are drying up. "We have a tithing church, people who give a percentage, and it doesn't affect us perhaps as much but when people lose their jobs, their tithe goes down because their income goes down," Treasurer Ken Edwards said. "Perhaps those with trust funds have taken a big loss and it probably affects them a lot more than it does us."
Some churches put donations from their congregation into trust funds. But other churches we spoke with say they've also suffered the same losses as many trust funds in the market.
