Wednesday, Jul 29, 2009 @09:35am CDT This car is reducing the amount of rubber on the road and saving its riders a little green. It's called a zip car. Cars are parked in various locations around town. They're sitting there waiting for zip car members to jump in and go. "I have always just borrowed cars, but I guess if that resource isn't avaliable to certain people, then being able to ride in a car for a day would be definitely useful. I would actually save about an hour a day in sleep. Maybe about 20 dollars a day in gas. It's awesome!" Zip car users reduce wear and tear on their own cars. Most save about 4,000 miles a year. That means less money spent on gas, oil and repairs. "If you can share a car with your neighbor and it works, you could share insurance, gas, and other things, and the beauty of this is gas and insurance is built in to the cost of using the car" said Tom Costello Mass Transit Managing Director. The zip-car program is expanding to communities all over the US. OTHER BENEFITS INCLUDE LESS CONGESTION AND AIR POLLUTION. STUDIES SHOW JUST ONE ZIP CAR CAN TAKE THE EQUIVALENT OF 15 VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. I'M ERIN SHRYOCK AND THAT'S TEXOMA GREEN BACK TO YOU. |
