Some state funding could soon be helping the Wichita Falls Health Department administer swine flu shot. This morning, city councilors voted to accept an approximately 246-thousand dollar grant from the state for a "public health emergency response grant." Lou Franklin says if the health department gets more doses of the vaccine, they'll use the money to hold mass vaccination clinics. But if you have a primary care physician, she's recommending that people try to get the vaccine through their clinics.
“It's important to remember that the health department is simply a safety net for the community. We want those people who have primary care providers to continue to seek care with them and to receive vaccinations through their physician."
So far, the health department has received 200 doses -- and is giving first priority to emergency responders.
