Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @06:01pm CST Nineteen teams made up of three people each competed for first place and bragging rights by spelling words like hieroglyphics and hippopotamus. Even folks who just came to watch joined in the fun by spelling audience participation words. All the money raised today helps the literacy council buy supplies to help folks learn to read. “We enjoy the competition, we enjoy the community turn out for what we consider to be a very worthy cause,” says Steven Shelton WALC tutor. It took eight full rounds to pair down the competition, which then continued for quite a few more between the last two standing but in the end. The winners are: 3rd went to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2nd place was the Dewey Decimals team of the Wichita Falls Public Library and the 1st place team was sponsored by Owanah Anderson. |
