Reported by: Sara DiMura Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 @05:32pm CST Police began an initiative, in February, to remind residents to lock their car doors, and keep personal belongings out of sight. Since the beginning of that campaign the number of unlocked cars broken into has significantly dropped. Before then around 85% of cars that were broken into were unlocked. "We now have neighbors out there that are looking out for each other and that's a big help neighbors calling in suspicious activity things along that line and folks are just becoming a little bit more aware,” says Jeff Hughes Wichita Falls Police Department. From February up until now car break-ins are down 29%. The number of stolen vehicle reports is down 35%, and only 30%of cars broken into were unlocked. |
