The second phase of renovation work at M.S.U.'s Ligon Coliseum is costing more money than school leaders had expected. The school has already allocated about ten and a half million dollars to the renovation – including money from the state and private funds. This next phase is estimated to cost more than six and a half million dollars. Dr. Rogers told the Board of Regents that what started as an architectural project turned into more of an engineering project -- with lots of infrastructure that needed to be updated -- including replacing the dome and air conditioning, doing electrical work, and getting rid of asbestos. But he says it will be money well spent.
“I don't see a day again that a university this size could build a building of that quality,” Dr. Rogers said.
The coliseum is used for volleyball and basketball games. Dr. Rogers says these renovations will greatly extend the coliseum's "life.”
