Two soldiers from Wichita Falls were among the many thousands at Fort Hood on lock-down Thursday.
---
And their wives, 20- year old Alice Leija and 21- year old Crystal Lary, also from Wichita Falls, were there as well, waiting together at a home off- post.
---
Crystal: "I didn't hear from him, so all I was thinking is, I don't know what I'd do without him."
---
Crystal says it was while driving back from Wichita Falls to Killeen, that she heard the news of Thursday's mass killing at Fort Hood.
---
Crystal: "It was really hard on me. I was crying, and I had lots of family calling to see if he was okay. And, I didn't know what to say to them because I had not heard from him."
---
And, Crystal says that's about the time her husband, Sergeant Matt Lary tried but failed to get through.
---
Thankfully, though, he did get through to his mother.
---
Alice: "It really makes me grateful to know my husband is okay. But, I'm here with Crystal and another army wife, and we're just trying to keep each other calm together.
---
Alice was fortunate enough to hear from her husband, Specialist Albert Leija, not long after the killings.
---
He'd just returned on post from lunch.
---
Alice: "He was very concerned, very jumpy. I could tell he was on alert. He was real nervous. All his buddies, his best friend Matt was on post at the time also, and I could just tell he was real concerned."
---
But now, as Alice and Crystal learn more about who's responsible, their thoughts too are with the families who's loved ones won't be coming home, and from a post on American soil.
---
Alice: "It could be anybody's, it's somebody's husband. It's somebody's wife. All those victims. It's just really, really heart- breaking to know we're okay, but somebody is not. There's a woman sitting at home right now with her children, scared to death because she hasn't heard any news. And, her husband hasn't contacted."
---
Thursday was actually Alice and Specialist Leija's 2- year anniversary.
