A bomb squad unit from Fort Sill was called in Thursday after a possible explosive training round was found in a self storage unit on Sheppard Access Road. Units from the Wichita Falls police department and fire department arrived on scene as a precautionary measure.
A sergeant from the Wichita Falls police department said an employee from Saf-T-Loc opened the storage unit Thursday afternoon due to unpaid rent.Inside, the employee found old military equipment including a rocket propelled training round.
Since the training round is classified as hazardous material, federal guidelines require it to be destroyed. The bomb unit took the round back with them to the post in Oklahoma to destroy it.
