"All Shook Up": 3 Quakes in 3 Days

By: METEOROLOGIST Bryan Rupp
Updated: April 28, 2013
After hearing about many earthquakes in central Oklahoma over the past few years but not feeling them in Texoma, we are now part of the growing number of folks being 'shook up'.

The latest temblor hit around 8:46pm Monday, November 7, 2011 (in the middle of a major severe weather and tornado outbreak in the same location) near Prague, OK.  This one was measured at a magnitude 4.7.

This is the third in a series of strong quakes that began on very early Saturday morning.  Just as the third quake on Monday was a 4.7 so was the first one very early on Saturday morning.  The second quake was the strongest in the history of the Sooner state at 5.6.  That quake was felt in 9 states from New Mexico to Illinois.

Just for trivia interests, events like this when dozens of quakes happen in a small area over a small period of time are none as "Quake Swarms."

For more information on each of the quakes including maps and was you can post what you felt to the USGS site click the links below:

Quake #1 - 4.7 - Saturday, November 5, 2011 @ 2:12am

Quake #2 - 5.6 - Saturday, November 5, 2011 @ 10:53pm

Quake #3 - 4.7 - Monday, November 7, 2011 @ 8:46pm

Click hear to see the list of at least 29 temblors (as of print time 636am) that have happened in Oklahoma since Friday.
