One local cheerleading squad is getting the chance to perform in the biggest thanksgiving day parade in the nation.

Wichita Christian's cheerleaders will be heading to New York City and take part in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The cheerleaders thought about participating in last years Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, but didn't follow through with it.

So when the opportunity arose again this year the girls didn't hesitate to sign up.

"5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8."

For the past three weeks the Wichita Christian cheerleaders have been practicing for the biggest performance of their careers.

50 million people will be tuned in along with 3 million people in New York as they dance during the 2012 Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

In may, the 8 girls received an invitation to participate with Spirit of America Productions in the annual parade.

But as the girls prepare for their big day it's hard not to get distracted.

"Thinking about more about all the famous people we are going to meet and actually just going to new york with all our friends, " said Alex Stone, one of the cheerleaders.

"We were all really excited because the year before we heard Justin Bieber was there so we were super excited," said Shelby Sawyer, another of the cheerleaders.

These girls are also thinking about their costumes.

"They are like skin tight and they go like midway, and there is a fake tutu type thing, and then their are tutu's on the sleeves, and there are checkers, and they are not too cute," said Sawyer.

But regardless of what they'll be wearing they expect the trip to be a blast.

"I just think it will be good for us because we will have fun memories and we will be with each other a lot," Sawyer continued.

Sharing many memories together as they perform at Herald Square during the 86th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The girls leave bright and early tomorrow morning and they say they probably won't get too much sleep tonight with all the excitement.

And if you want to watch their performance tune in right here on KFDX to watch the parade starting at 9 a.m.
