There's a glimmer of hope over the future of Twinkies.

After forcefully declaring Friday that the company will be liquidated as a result of a bakers union strike, Hostess Brands reversed itself and has agreed to federal mediation starting Tuesday.

The decision came Monday afternoon just as Hostess went to bankruptcy court to change its filing from Chapter 11 to Chapter 7 liquidation. Even if agreement isn't reached through mediation, Twinkies, Ho-Hos and Ding Dongs may well survive, though.

Other food companies are already expressing interest in buying the brands from Hostess.
