Target Three Special Report: Anderson Cold Case

On November 16th, 2006, 34 year-old Bobby Anderson Jr. was shot in the neck near a home in the 400 block of Juarez. Officers say he struggled to walk.

Detective Tony Fox recalls, "He had fled after being shot and fled to Martin Luther King Boulevard and Marconi." When a motorist stopped to check on Anderson, he collapsed and the driver called 911. Anderson later died at the hospital.

After his death, we spoke with a woman who knew him. "He would give you his last dime. He would do anything for anyone. He did not have a bad heart. He was a good boy, he was. He didn't deserve to go like this."

Three weeks after Anderson's murder, Rickey Marvin Dean Junior was arrested and charged with murder. Witnesses originally said Dean, who also goes by the nickname "Snow", was fighting with another person in front of a home in the 400 block of Juarez.

They said Dean then reached inside a vehicle parked at the residence, grabbed a gun and started shooting at where the victim and others were standing. But Dean's murder charge was later dropped.

"We have talked with numerous people who were there, of course. We have conflicting stories of who the actual shooter is. There was an arrest made in this case in the past. We had testimony and conflicting stories then and the charges were dropped at that time," said Detective Fox.

Police say witnesses in every case, but especially in murder cases, are extremely important. Sargent John Spragins said, "We want the truth. A lot of times, the witnesses are going to put together the facts and circumstances that help the investigators proved what happened."

As for the investigation as to who killed Anderson, investigators say it remains open. Fox explained, "We want to solve this case, and the other cases, too, because we have, besides the victim, we also have the families, and for the community's sake."
