A new security system is coming to the Wichita County Jail Annex.

Officials say C & I Electronics will be doing a complete overhaul of the old system for the annex, which is located off Central Freeway East.  Wichita County Commissioners approved funding the new system at their meeting this morning.  The jail video surveillance system will cost just less than 121-thousand dollars.

The old system was built in 1995.  Wichita County Sheriff David Duke says the video from the current system isn't as clear as they would like, and the new system will make facilities safer for both the inmates and the workers.

Duke says, "We have a lot of different incidents that happen with the inmates with fights.  We have to be able to see who are actually some of the people that are causing the problem or things that go on whenever the officer assigned to that picket can't see what they're doing in another corner when he's been distracted by another incident that's happened."

Duke says the new system should be up and running by January 1st.
