His presidency has been defined by an offensive against drug gangs that led to a spike in violent crime and left at least 60-thousand people dead. While authorities arrested many high profile gang leaders, the gangs did not back down and attacks against police and soldiers increased.
President elect Enrique Pena Nieto says his priority will be to reduce violence.
