Lawton Police Investigating First Murder of 2013

According to Lawton police, the father of 35 year old Sarah McCoy got concerned when he couldn't reach his daughter all day yesterday.

So he stopped by her house and made a discovery inside that no parent should ever make.

Crime tape blocked the house where 35 year old Sarah McCcoy lived with her two elementary aged children.

It was her father who became concerned enough to come to the house to check and police say he is the one who first called 911.

"He showed up at the house and he was suspicious cause something didn't look right and he wanted us to come out," says Capt. Craig Akard, public information officer with the Lawton Police Department.

Police say what didn't look right is that McCoy's maroon Buick LaSabre was missing from the carport.

It was later found about five blocks away outside an apartment complex.

Police say until recently McCoy had lived here with her husband until they separated.

Police did not say McCoy's husband is a suspect but they did confirm that officers have been called here before.

"She has made reports in the past of various complaints. Some of them were domestic. Some of them were a violation of protective order. She did have a valid protective order," Capt. Akard says.

Although this neighborhood was quiet when our cameras were around, residents tell us that is not always the case.

None of the neighbors we spoke with knew Sarah McCoy personally, but one lady told us that she knows enough about the neighborhood that's now ready to pack up and move out.

"It's a bad neighborhood. I have four and my house has been broken into four times. nothing missing but some guy came up with my number so, I want out," says Cassandra Swasho, who lives in the neighborhood.

At this time, Lawton police have made no arrests.

This death comes just nine days into the new year and on the heels of last year when police investigated 16 murders; the most they've had in nearly 40 years.
