Time Capsule Opens Memories of 1988 Barwise Grads

An old class of junior high graduates in Wichita Falls are taking time to look back.

            Today members of the 1988 Barwise Junior High class gathered to open a time capsule they created for a class project.

            The capsule has been kept in the school library acting as a "conversation piece," and today it was all the talk as old classmates came together to find what had been locked away for so long.

            An eager crowd surrounded this safe unlocking memories that had been stored for the last 25 years.           

            Those memories were from the 1988 8^th grades class at Barwise Junior High.

            Many of those grads bringing with them their children to the day's event to share their trip down memory lane.

 "I was talking to one and he said look, look how daddy looked back then, your glasses looked so much better on you," said Marion Anson-Prchal, the Barwise Jr. High teacher who created the time capsule.

            She says the opening has been long awaited.

            "I have had kids throughout the last 25 years ask me when we are going to open it. And the fact that today is actually a reality and we are opening it, it's pretty cool."

            Amongst the teenagers treasured items where old TV shows and magazines and even a newscast from channel 3 with anchors Bill Warren and Cindy Bradford.

            And though today was all about seeing what was inside the metal case it also gave old classmates time to reconnect.

 "I haven't seen these people in ten or twenty years so it was really nice to see all my old friends and to see how everyone has changed, how they've grown up and their families," said Ryan English, one of the 1988 graduates.

And now that those old memories have been opened, new ones are set to be closed as students from Barwise's current 8^th grade class now lock theirs away.

            The class says there were three reasons why they chose January 11th as the day to open the time capsule.

            The most important being that it Anson- Prchal's birthday today.

            She said it made it an easy day to remember when they would open it.
