The 12th season of American Idol kicks off on Wednesday, Jan. 16 and this time around, a Wichita Falls native will be auditioning in front of the judges.

For idol hopefuls like 24-year-old Collin Pittman, a chance to sing in front on the national stage means a lot.

"I've always watched all the seasons. I always went, 'This would be cool to maybe try out someday.' I really never thought that it would be a reality to actually get to be on the show," Pittman says.

Pittman sang his rendition of "I Can't Make You Love Me" for the idol judges in Los Angeles last year.

The Rider High School graduate says performing on the show was surreal.

"It really felt like I was watching it on tv. It was like I was watching it on tv and I just kind of stepped through the tv screen. I was just there. They were looking at me instead of somebody else. It just felt pretty amazing," Pittman says.

He says he gets joy out of singing to others.

"I just enjoy singing for people not to them," Pittman says. "I like to sing to their heart, make them feel something, make everyone happy."

Collin's parents, Dik and Angie Pittman, say they secretly sent a video of Collin singing the National Anthem to the American Idol - Nominate An Idol and got him the audition.

They believe he is the next American Idol.

Angie says, "I enjoy his voice. I enjoy his passion. He's got a lot of it. Lots of heart when he sings. It speaks to everybody."

Dik exclaims, "He just has passion in the way he sings. As he's mentioned, he doesn't sing to the people. He sings for the people and he wants them to feel the music and that's what music is all about.

Collin's family will have to wait to find out if he got that golden ticket to hollywood.

Collins says it will be easy for his fans to spot him.

"I guess, keep your eyes open, look for my hat. I always have it on... You really never know, it's just one of those things that you have to stay tuned for.

We don't know if Collin made it pass the first round of auditions so you'll have to tune into American Idol to find out.

You can catch all the action during the season premiere of starting Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. on KJTL, Texoma's FOX.
