Jurors took about four hours this afternoon to return a verdict of guilty for a 45-year-old man for the sexual assault of a Wichita Falls woman.
Efrain Muniz was found guilty after about three days of testimony in 89th District Court this week.
During closing arguments today, defense attorneys argued that had the victim truly been in a bad situation, she would have used her cell phone to call for help.
During her testimony, the victim said she didn't call 9-1-1 because she was in Wichita Falls, but her cell phone was registered in Iowa Park, and she thought the call would go to police in Iowa Park.
When police did arrive on scene, they testified they heard a woman inside screaming for help, so they had to force entry into the home by kicking in the door.
A forensics scientist who testified during the trial says she found Muniz's DNA on the victim.
Testimony in the punishment phase got underway after the guilty verdict came down and will continue tomorrow morning.
