The family of a Houston-area man killed in last week's hostage standoff in Algeria is speaking out about his life and the horrible events that ended it.

57-year-old Victor Lovelady was working at a natural gas plant where he and nearly 40 others were killed. His family says he did not believe he was in danger working at the natural gas complex in Northern Africa.

The terrorists who attacked the gas complex reportedly planned on keeping Lovelady and another American alive in exchange for the release of two terror suspects jailed in the United States. The Obama Administration rejected the offer.

Erin Lovelady, Victor's daughter said, "My whole life he's always told me that good things happen to good people, and that I was a good person and that good things are going to happen for me, and he's always told us that, and that's what makes this so hard because of how good he was, that he didn't deserve that."

Mike Lovelady, Victor's brother said, "I just want to know how my brother died. It means a lot to me. They told us that they don't think he suffered, and I want to know that because that's closure for me."

One of the surviving American hostages in Algeria is from Odessa.
