For more than twelve hours, police have been investigating a shooting that left a Wichita Falls man dead.
They say another man, they're still looking for, entered a home in the 1000 block of Woods Street, and shot the victim.
Police and detectives have been putting in overtime investigating the first reported homicide of 2013.
Due to the details of this case police are asking the community for help in bringing this suspect to justice.

Just before 5:30 Tuesday morning.. police, amr, and first responders were dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of woods street for gunshots.
They say when they arrived on scene.

"We discovered that a black male in the house. It was apparent he had suffered a gunshot wound", said Sgt. Harold McClure with the WFPD.

"An unknown male suspect approx. 6ft tall wearing a hoodie made forced entry into that residence and shot 35 year old David Mays", said Officer Jeff Hughes with the WFPD.

Police say the suspect then left the scene in whats being described as a an older model dark colored four door vehicle.
Alice Dennis,  who's one of the victims neighbors, has lived in the area for nearly twenty five years.
She said she woke up to loud screaming so she went over to help.
Her main concern was getting the children who live in the residence to safety.

"The kids they were out there so I told the babies just come on and go with me" said neighbor of victim, Alice Dennis.
Dennis says the entire situation came as a shock to her.
"It just blowed us away cause her kids play with my grand babies all the time. She's a real nice lady her and her husband" added Dennis.
Even though police say based on the details of the incident they have no reason to believe the public is in danger.
Dennis says it still weighs heavily on her heart.

"When stuff like that happens it really just throws everything into turmoil in a way because we haven't had nothing like this happen in a long time and for thing to jump off like this you kind of get nervous and scared... yea you do", Dennis said.

This case remains under investigation and the suspect is still being sought after.
So, police are urging anyone who may have any information on this case to call them at 761-7792.
Or just contact Crime Stoppers at 322-9888.
