A free one-day dental clinic for area veterans was such a success last week, coordinators say it is continuing this week.

The Dental Stand Down took place last Wednesday at Midwestern State University's Dental Hygiene Department.

All day, students provided veterans with x-rays and a cleaning, free of charge.

Last year, 32 veterans took advantage of this service while this year, the number doubled to 64.

In fact, coordinators say they had so many vets who signed up that scheduled appointments for the stand down will continue tomorrow through Wednesday.

The response has been so huge that coordinators are already working on expanding it next year.

"We have talked to the dean that we get to make it an interdisciplinary and that would include the nursing department, the radiology department and the respiratory department and we would probably make this on a Friday and make it a full day," says Kathy Hammack of MSU's Dental Hygiene Department.

Hammack says as long as Archer, Clay and Wichita County veterans call to make an appointment they will sign them up and continue the free Dental Stand Down.

To make an appointment veterans can call 940- 397-4764 or 940-397-4737.
