More than 40 neuromuscular diseases affect hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Kelly Crush, a beloved Wichita Falls firefighter, is included in that statistic.

The 51-year-old battled fires with the Wichita Falls Fire Department for 21 years.

In 2008, Lou Gerig's Disease forced him to retire.

Crush lost his battle with the disease in March.

This Saturday, the local chapter of the MDA will host a fundraiser walk to benefit those, like Kelly Crush, who suffer from a muscle disease.

The annual MDA Muscle Walk is Saturday at the MPEC's Ray Clymer Exhibit Hall.

It starts at 8:30 in the morning.

The walk is about a mile long.

To register, call (940) 696-5581.

Funds raised will help with research and provide services to families affected my neuromuscular disease.
