Changes Coming to Hotter N' Hell Hundred

It's never too soon to start planning the Hotter N' Hell Hundred, an event which attracts thousands to Wichita Falls every August.

With just six months to go, committee members are already mapping out how to improve on the race and other aspects of Hotter N' Hell for not just this year but years to come.

Roby Christie, Hotter N' Hell Hundred Chairman, says they're looking forward to applying things they learned from a meeting held on Tuesday for a better ride in August.

Dozens of riders, committee members, sponsors and city officials came up with ideas on how to improve bike traffic control at the starting line, how to communicate with riders and visitors through technology and how to increase host home potentials.

Christie says organizers also identified new changes like an expanded off road bicycle race, some children's events that will interest beginning riders and introduced technology that should increase cell phone potential.

"We need to be able to communicate as a community as well as a community of riders so we want to do a better job at getting cell reception improvement during that weekend so that we are not eating up all those bits in the air and leaving citizens without cell service," Christie says.

Also, Christie says this year's race will bring back Hell's Gate, which is a spot in Burkburnett that sorts out the finishers.

If riders have not arrived there by noon then they have to come in on an 80 mile route instead of the 100 mile route.
