At least two people are dead after a twin engine jet crashed into three homes South Bend, Indiana Sunday.

The plane crashed as it was approaching the South Bend Airport.

Brad Preston was in his yard and saw the jet crash into the home across the street.

"Looked up and actually thought the plane was going to crash into our house," Preston said.  "I just hit the deck and heard a loud boom noise, and the plane went into three houses across the street from us."

The jet started leaking fuel into the basement of one of the homes, prompting officials to evacuate the area.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane took off from Tulsa headed for South Bend and reported mechanical problems shortly before crashing.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board have been called to the scene to try to determine what caused the plane to crash.
