The WIC office at the Wichita Falls Health Department now operates as a collection site for the Mother's Milk Bank of North Texas, which is located in Fort Worth.
The bank supplies Neonatal ICU babies with donor human milk.
Organizers say though the donation bank is two hours away, premature babies from our area still benefit from the donations.
Sherryl Roberts, WIC breastfeeding coordinator, says, "A lot of our babies here in our NICU end up going down to hospitals in the Fort Worth area, and they are recipients of that donor milk that helps keep them alive in those really critical times of their development."
WIC workers say they applied to get the donation station in their office because so many local women were interested in donating their milk to others.
