The Texas Highway Commission is increasing the speed limit on 15-hundred miles of road in the state, including a stretch of highway here in Texoma.
An 11-mile section of I-44 from northern Wichita Falls to the Red River will soon have a new speed limit.
The limit will be increased 75 miles per hour.
The current speed limit is 70.
But TxDOT officials warn don't step on the gas just yet.
Adele Lewis, TxDOT spokesperson, says, "Something to remember is that it's not going to change today.  Wait for the signs!  The police can still give you a ticket.  You can't drive 75 miles per hour today.  You're going to have to wait until the sign goes in."
Lewis says the signs should be changed within the next three months.
She says the Texas Transportation Commission will next study speed limits on Highway 287 outside of city limits and decide whether to increase those speed limits.
