City Leaders One Step Closer to Selecting New Police Chief

City officials say they're about halfway through the selection process for a new chief at the Wichita Falls Police Department.
Dennis Bachman retired in May after working for the department for 30 years, and as police chief for eight years.
Officials say they received about 40 applications for the position and have now narrowed them those down to about one dozen applicants.
Darron Leiker, Wichita Falls city manager, says, "We're in the process now of determining who we would interview. I would guess we'll probably interview about five to six individuals, and then i would make a recommendation to city council to confirm the appointment."
Leiker says he hopes to make the recommendation to city council in late September or early October.
