Dumpsters to be Hot Topic of Discussion at City Council Meeting

City leaders and residents will be talking trash at tomorrow's city council meeting.
They'll be discussing whether they'll keep or dump a resolution that will dispose dumpsters in residential alleyways.
City officials say they've received a lot of comments about this issue and that's why they decided to put the issue back on the city council agenda.
The proposal was actually adopted with councilors' adoption of the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget.
That was adopted at the Sept. 18 city council meeting.
City officials say converting alley dumpsters to roll-out curbside containers would save about $300-thousand per year on things like maintenance, gas, and man hours.
Some Wichita Falls residents, though, say the convenience of the dumpster is priceless, and they want to keep it.
Others say the dumpsters negatively impact the city's image.
If councilors vote to keep the dumpsters, it could cost you, and here's why.
Russell Schreiber, City of Wichita Falls public works director, says, "The $302,000 in savings is already in the budget, so if the council decides not to remove the alley dumpsters, we have to come up with the $302,000 from somewhere."
Should the council decide not to approve the resolution, city officials will present two new options for the council to consider at the Nov. 6 meeting.
The first is increasing alley customers' collection bills by about $3 per month.
The second is a 3-percent across-the-board increase in collection bills.
Also on tomorrow's agenda, councilors are expected to vote on City Manager Darron Leiker's recommendation to appoint Manuel Borrego the new chief of police.
