A 4 year old boy from Tyler is safe Thursday morning in the custody of police, after police say his father first shot his mother to death, then kidnapped the boy.

An amber alert was issued Wednesday afternoon after Tyler police arrived to a scene in which a woman, 30-year-old Jelena Calvert, was found murdered.

Upon arrival officers learned that James W. Calvert shot his ex-wife to death and abducted their 4 year old child.

An older child was in school at the time.

The suspect James Calvert and his son Lucas Calvert were found at 11:30 Wednesday night by West Monroe Louisiana police.

When officers tried to pull over Calvert they say he sped away and later crashed the car on a dead-end road.

When officers arrested Calvert they noticed his son Lucas in the back seat, unharmed.

They recovered two weapons from the vehicle.

Court documents show Calvert has been in an ongoing custody battle for his kids since December 2009.
