Halloween candy buyback to benefit U.S. troops

Trick-or-treaters can now put some of that hard earned candy to good use by giving it away and its all for a good cause.
That is because a local dentist office wants to "buy back" your candy.
Kool Smiles Dentistry for Kids is asking children to bring in at least 25 pieces of unwrapped candy in exchange for a toy.
The candy will then by used in Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages filled with snacks, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation to U.S. military members overseas.
The toys can also be donated to the Batallion Buddy program, which gives toys to the children of soliders who have been deployed.
Jessica Gutierrez, clinical team leader at Kool Smiles, says the buyback helps kids and our troops in many different ways.
"As well as promoting oral hygiene, we want to keep as much candy out of our kids mouth as we can," Gutierrez says. "We also want to support our troops and make sure that when they are overseas, that they're being thought of by our community."
Gutierrez says you don't have to be a Kool Smiles patient to donate.
The Halloween Candy Buyback will go on starting Nov. 1 - 3.
Kool smiles is located at 3711 Gregory Street.
They are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
