Wichita County Election Results

Wichita County Commissioner Barry Mahler will continue representing precinct 3 constituents for another four years.

The Iowa Park native received more than 4,600 votes to keep his Republican challenger, Gordon Griffith, from taking the seat.

Mahler mixed and mingled last night at the Democratic watch party, held at the Courtyard Marriott off Lawrence Road.

Mahler says he's extremely appreciative that voters chose him for a second term and he's now looking forward to four more years.

"I'm a better commissioner now than I was four years ago. You grow into this job. You lean every day that you're on it. We have some things pressing in Wichita County that we're gonna be taking care of. Got a great team to work with and just looking forward to just going to work for the taxpayers," says Barry Mahler, who was re-elected to the Wichita County Commissioner Precinct 3 seat.

Mahler added, local races are not about parties but about getting the job done for constituents and he plans to continue working hard for Wichita County resident in precinct 3.

Meanwhile, in the race for Wichita County Tax Assessor/ Collector,Republican Challenger Tommy Smyth wins against the longtime incumbant Lou Murdock.
 
A bit of an asterisk on this race however. Due to the final tally coming in with a difference of less than 300 there will be an automatic recount.

Smyth will now hold the position, after a narrow margin of victory--- just a couple hundred votes.

Smyth says, "It's been a great race, a great experience.  Nobody runs alone.  My wife, my children, my best friends.  It's just been a great experience.  I'm looking forward to really trying to improve the customer service aspects of that organization."

And the contested race for 89th District Judge, incumbent Republican, Mark Price, was elected over Democratic challenger, Holly Crampton, with 72% of the vote.

Price says, "The votes are approving what I'm doing, so it's time to get right back to the work we've been doing."
