WFFD Presents Pink Profits to Komen

Updated: November 14, 2012
The local Susan G. Komen affiliate is benefiting from Texomans caring enough to wear pink.

Wichita Falls firefighters presented a $15,000 check this afternoon to the local Komen chapter.

That $15,000 is a record amount.

It came from sales of pink t-shirts and magnetic ribbons during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Komen volunteers say 75% of the funds will help local breast cancer patients.

"Not one dime turns on a light switch or pays a salary. We're an all volunteer organization and we'd like to keep it that way. We take pride in that so the money that they generated through their t-shirt sales has a direct impact on the lives of the women of North Texas," says Mark Henderson, a volunteer with the local Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Firefighters say they're looking at adding some new items to sell during next year's campaign and generate even more money for the local Komen chapter.
