The Forum in Wichita Falls was buzzing today during an annual event that had folks competing to spell their way to the t-o-p.
The 16th annual Wichita Adult Literacy Council Spelling Bee took place at The Forum.
Eighteen teams competed to be the top spellers and take the top prize.
And while this bee-themed event was designed for fun it raised money and awareness on the serious issue of adult illiteracy.
"Believe it or not, 23% of people in our very own town here struggle with reading and that's what we're all about, trying to help people improve those skills so we're raising money to support those programs," says Cindy Price, program manager for Wichita Adult Literacy Council.
Coordinators hopes to raise more than $15,000 from this year's spelling bee.
In case you're wondering, the winning word was "tiddledies," defined as soft, flexible chunks of ice.
And that word slid the Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home team into first place.
