The Wichita Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees met on Wednesday during a work session to discuss their strategic plan for preparing students to become lifelong learners.

WFISD Superintendent Dr. John Frossard presented his strategic plan to the board along with five goals that he wants the district to accomplish between 2012 and 2017.

The goals are:

  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement and accountability that fosters students success
  • Produce students that are globally competitive
  • Provide safe and secure facilities that support instructional programs
  • Promote a culture of mutual support, collaboration and community engagement
  •  Demonstate fiscal responsibility and operating efficiency

Dr. Frossard says the district will take a systematic approach to improve.

He says there are 25 objectives within the five goals that need to be achieved before the plan can be called a success.

He says the plan will begin with 14 objectives in the 2012 - 2013 school year.

Board members had issues with how the plan will be implemented and how progress would be reported but the superintendent says he is optimistic the plan will be successful.

"I think we'll accomplish all of the goals probably before 2017," Dr. Frossard says. "All of the current objectives for those goals but I think we'll add new ones as we go and because it is a fluid document, I'm sure we'll have a new five year plan before the five years are up."

The board also discussed possible changes to its student school choice program as well as changes to its facilities policy but a decision on those two issues would be decided at a later date.
