A man is charged with the manufacture of drugs after authorities say he tried to flush a meth cook down the toilet so he wouldn't get in trouble.

Steven Darrell Depriest Junior is charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance over 400 grams. Police and DPS officials say when they tried to search Depriest's motel room in the 26 hundred block of Business 287, they smelled a strong odor of meth.

They say there was gray smoke coming from the room which they said was an "active meth laboratory." Once inside, they say they noticed Depriest tried to flush the meth cook down the toilet.

Authorities removed it and said it tested positive as meth and weighed more than 900 grams.
