CDC Warns Against Infant Sleep Positioners

Many parents of newborns will try anything to get their baby to sleep for a few hours at a time, but CDC officials say they should never use an infant sleep positioner. 

A new CDC report summarizes thirteen cases of infant death associated with sleep positioners. These devices are intended to keep infants in a specific position while sleeping. 

Most of the infants who died were under three months of age and had been placed on their side for sleep. They then suffocated against the foam padding. 

Experts say infants should always be placed on their back at bed time, and sleep in cribs without bedding and blankets.
