Eighty people were injured in a foggy, 50-vehicle pileup that completely closed Interstate 10 near Beaumont, Texas on Thursday morning, NBC affiliate KBMT reported.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis said several hundred more cars were stuck on the scene.

There were no fatalities in the chain-reaction accident, which happened over a two-mile stretch between Taylor's Bayou and Hampshire Road.

The DPS said there was dense fog in the area at the time of the initial crash, which happened at around 8:45 a.m. local time (9:45 a.m. ET).
