Trout season is now officially open in Wichita Falls. The Texas Parks and Wildlife this morning made the first stocking in the pond at South Weeks Park on Southwest Parkway near Taft.

The stockings used to be made at Plum lake on the other side of town, but repeated fish kills from golden algae and chemical runoff led to the use of the newer pond.

The pond will be restocked every two weeks until March when the water temperature begins getting too warm for Trout.

To fish for the Trout, you will need a fishing license with a fresh water fishing stamp. However, no license is required for ages 16 and under. There is a 5 fish limit per angler per day.
