Lightening speed is just one of the many super powers seen at the CASA superhero's 5k at Lake Wichita Park.

First kids raced in a 1k this morning then it was the adults turn to pound the pavement in a 5k event.

As you can see some participants were sporting super hero costumes including our own weekday anchor, Gwyn Bevel, who served as emcee.

While today's superhero run allowed participants to take part in lots of fun, it also allowed them to raise funds for a group of hero's who help abused and neglected children, Court Appointed Special Advocates, also known as CASA's.

"This is the biggest thing that really involves the community. We have got lots of vendors out here so it's a way that we connect with them, but it's also a way to bring in runners or walkers or anyone in the community that doesn't know who we are," said Samantha Suttle, CASA Outreach and Education Specialist.

"It really tells you who is here for the community and let's everybody kind of have a voice," said Alicia Schmitz, a 5 year CASA volunteer.

Once the race was over Santa took time to visit with kids before everyone headed home.

And coordinators say today's race raised more than 12 thousand dollars for CASA.
