breaking news
According to witnesses, 25-year-old Tammy Lydia Ramirez was in the front yard of her mother's home when she was attacked by 21-year-old Jonathan Garcia. Ramirez was shot in the chest during the attack and died at the scene.
Ramirez's mother told police her daughter and Garcia had been having a lot of problems, and she had convinced her daughter to get away from him and stay with her.
Ramirez's mother told investigators she heard someone arguing outside her home and went to see what was going on. She said she saw Garcia pointing a handgun at her daughter while trying to drag her to the street.
Ramirez's mother said Garcia then pointed the gun at her and told her stay back. She told police she grabbed the children and ran to the back of the house and then heard a gunshot. She said when she ran back to the front yard, her daughter was on the ground.
Police were able to track down Garcia at an apartment complex, where he surrendered to officers. He has been charged with murder and his bond has been set at 250-thousand dollars.
