That's one reason why Junior League of Wichita Falls members teamed up with health department officials today. They taught first and second graders at Sam Houston Elementary School the importance of eating healthy foods and being active each day.
During this day called "Healthy Kids Day," students learned about "my plate," a food pyramid guide for children. They also made healthy Christmas-themed snacks using bananas, strawberries, pretzels, and cheese.
First grader Oliver Boyce said, "we're cooking, we're having lots of fun, and we're eating lots of good stuff that's healthy for us."
Haylee Garcia explained, "So you can grow bigger and be healthy."
Health department officials used activity story telling to teach the students the importance of an active lifestyle.
