So they're passing along tips to help make that happen. In the first day of the 12 days of a safe Christmas, officers say if you plan on going out of town, ask a family member, friend, or neighbor to watch your house.
Also, ask them to collect your mail or newspapers. W.F.P.D Sergeant John Spragins said, "We don't want those things gathering up. Criminals out there will see things like that and that's an indicator that no one is home."
Spragins says you should also contact the newspaper office and postal service. You can ask those organizations to stop service during the times you're going to be away from the house.
