While this freezing weather has many of us dusting off those winter coats and reaching for an extra blanket at night, the blast of winter weather hitting Texoma could sure serve as a reminder of just how dangerous the elements can be for those who have anywhere to go.

The Salvation Army opened its doors to emergency shelter to make sure those in need have a warm place to stay.

Greg Shannon, Salvation Army captain, says the shelter has already seen people come in.

"Not as many as we expected but what we got last night, we didn't expect either so little bit of a surprise for all of us so we are expecting more tonight," Shannon says.

Shannon says the overnight emergency shelter has plenty of room available to house people who need a warm place to sleep.

He says there are 40 beds available plus an overflow area with cots.

Those who use the shelter will get a clean sheets, blankets and hygiene products.

If you would like to donate supplies or make a monetary donation, you can drop those off at The Salvation Army headquarters at 403 7th Street or by calling (800)SAL-ARMY or 322- 9822.
