New York City Preps Times Square for New Years Eve

New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly says Times Square will be the safest place in the world on New Year's Eve.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to watch the ball drop and ring in the new year. Thousands of extra officers have been assigned.

Along with uniformed police, K-9 units and counter-terrorism teams, plain-clothes officers will blend into the crowd. Many officers will carry radiation detectors to detect evidence of a dirty bomb.
