The cousin of a man murdered Friday night in Durham wants to know how a group of kids, including a 12-year-old girl, were allegedly able to get their hands on a gun.  Durham Police have charged 16-year-old Justino Navarette Maya and two younger girls aged 12 and 14, with murder.

Police say the victim, Johnny Danilo Villatoro, 35, of South Woodcrest Street was apparently shot to death during a carjacking shortly before 7 p.m.

"Why do they have a weapon at this young age?" Martinely Hernandez said. "Who bought it for them?  How'd they get it?"

Villatoro is survived by his wife and three kids, the youngest of which is only two months old.

A 12-year-old female suspect accidentally shot herself in the abdomen and leg while inside the victim's vehicle.

She is being treated at a local hospital and will be facing murder charges when she is released. The injury does not appear to be life-threatening.
