Less than a month after 20 children were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a businessman in Colombia has produced a line of bulletproof clothes for children destined for the US market.

Bulletproof vests are attached to bulletproof backpacks which have been tested with machine guns and handguns to guarantee they can stand up to a barrage of gunfire.

Factory owner Miguel Caballero has specialized in protection equipment for two decades, but says he never thought about making bulletproof clothes for kids until the shooting in Connecticut. He says the design and colors were made with the American market in mind.

Caballero says he already has a US distributor, but would not disclose it. He will have to compete with three US firms that already make armored backpacks for kids and have all experience a surge in sales after Sandy Hook.
