And that chapter had him receiving a hero's goodbye today.
Members of the patriot guard riders joined family and friends at the US Army Recruiting office in Wichita Falls to give Brad Wright a proper send-off.
The recent Hirschi High School graduate enlisted in the US Marine Corps.
And this morning, he left town, on the way to boot camp.
But as you can see he didn't head out alone.
Dozens of people and Patriot Guard Riders showed up to accompany him on his drive to DWF airport.
But despite that support he says he has mixed feelings about becoming a marine.
"Nervous and excited" you know when you are about to go bungee jumping and you look off the cliff it's kind of like that," said Wright.
PGR members revved up and escorted wright part of the way to DFW airport and his own mother was one of the riders.
From Dallas he'll head to San Diego for 13-weeks of boot camp training.
