An Iowa Park man is dead after a pickup in which he was a passenger left the roadway and struck a utility pole yesterday.

The Department of Public Safety says the truck driven by  22-year-old Charles Edwin Hill of Iowa Park was westbound on Old Iowa Park Road between Peterson and Bell Road about 2:35 a.m. yesterday.

Troopers say the truck went off the road and hit the power pole causing it to overturn onto its top and throwing Hill out. The passenger, 22-year-old Joseph Sousa, also of Iowa Park, was partially ejected.

Sousa was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Janice Sons. Hill was admitted to United Regional with what are believed non-life threatening injuries. The DPS says neither man was wearing a seat belt.
