Today the 83rd Texas legislative session was gaveled in. Surrounded by their families, Representative James Frank of Wichita Falls and Representative Drew Springer of Muenster took the oath of office for the Texas House.
"This is a great day. I'm super excited to have my family here. I had my wife and daughter sitting with me, my two sons on my left. Getting the opportunity to bring the governor into the chamber. It was a great day," said Springer.
Frank said, "It's great. It's wonderful to be a part of it. It's exciting to see a place where so much history has happened."
After taking the oath of office, they began their first order of business- selecting a Speaker of the House. Joe Straus of San Antonio was selected and will lead the House for the next 140 days.
