breaking news
The flu has reached epidemic levels throughout much of the US. In fact, data from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows 47 states are experiencing widespread flu activity.
But, new research also found the flu vaccine is 60-percent effective against strains circulating this year.
So, with healthcare providers indicating an increase in flu activity in this area, the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District is strongly encouraging those who have not yet received a flu vaccine, to do so without delay.
It takes about 2 weeks to provide effective protection, so if you'd like to go ahead and get you and your family vaccinated, the Health District has a large supply of vaccine.
And, they're available now on a walk-in basis. They're at 1700 3rd Street, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The district's also planned an after hours clinic, though.
It's set for Tuesday, January 22nd from 8am to 6:30pm. If you have any questions about the flu vaccine, just contact the Health District at 761-7841.
